Love Song
by Sylwia Izabella Jampolska
I laid each atom plucked from my heart on an altar;
each piece carefully placed to rest upon this sacred rock,
Ready for the wind to carry ‘me’ away.
My lips were a poem dedicated to you,
My tears, an ointment to wash your feet.
But my words did not reach your ears across this desert,
And the earth beneath me became wet with sorrow.
I loved you enough to let you go,
I loved you too much to let you go,
I released you from my embrace,
I held you tight within my breast.
If the world was cruel to keep me from you,
Then let the wind scatter me.
