I feel that in this era of electronic news feeds and constant streaming, it is important to slow things down energetically. It is a reminder that these faces are more than just some pixels on a screen, fleeting and only to be replaced by the next in a constant stream of newsfeeds; that these were the hopes and dreams of lives that were cut short before their time. On a personal level, it is also a symbolic sacrifice of time taken out of my day as an offering, and as a way for me to process the pain I feel at the loss of these beautiful, brave hearts and minds.
