Australia is home to a proud and vibrant Persian community that has made an enormous contribution to our nation.
For many years, Persian Australians have courageously advocated for freedom, democracy and human rights in Iran, while standing in solidarity with family and friends who continue to suffer under repression.
Reza Pahlavi has emerged as a leading international voice supporting the Iranian people's aspirations for democracy, human rights, women's rights, political freedom and the rule of law. Many members of Australia's Persian community, parliamentarians and civic leaders wish to hear directly from him about the present situation in Iran, the future of Iran and the aspirations of the Iranian people for a free and democratic society.
Iran is one of the world's oldest civilisations, with a rich history, culture and heritage that extends far beyond the Islamic Republic. The Iranian people deserve the opportunity to determine their own future and build a society based on liberty, dignity and democracy.
We therefore call on the Australian Government to invite Reza Pahlavi to visit Australia and meet with members of the Persian-Australian community, parliamentarians and civic leaders.
